Where they stand
Seven questions the site puts to every list. Tap a tile for the party’s words and source.
Bar colour: the stance’s place in the issue’s range of answers, from dark red at one end of the debate to dark green at the other, shared across all lists. The economy’s options coexist, so its bar is a pale tint with an ink outline, not a step on that range. Squares: one slot per answer, in the same order, with the party’s square in its own; a square in the last slot means no answer. Dotted inner border: not said publicly, from the record; open the tile to see why.
Haredi draft. Should Haredi yeshiva students be drafted?
Ynet reports that it opposes drafting Haredi men or any form of compulsory enlistment. The party: "sanctions should not be imposed on someone who chooses not to enlist."

Who they are
- First formed in 2015 by all four Arab-led parties (13 seats; peak of 15 in 2020). Re-formed Aug 19, 2026 as Hadash–Ta'al–Balad, without Ra'am. (IDI; JPost, Aug 19, 2026)
- Hadash, the Democratic Front for Peace and Equality, sums itself up as “Democracy. Peace. Equality.” and lists first “a just, comprehensive and stable Israeli-Palestinian and Israeli-Arab peace.” The Jerusalem Post: Hadash “has historically emphasized Jewish-Arab partnership.” (hadash.org.il; JPost, Sep 1, 2026)
- Under Basic Law: The Knesset, Section 7A, a list or candidate can be barred for negating Israel as a Jewish and democratic state, inciting racism, or supporting armed struggle against Israel. On Likud's petition the Central Elections Committee voted Sept 23 to bar the list, 18–5; the Supreme Court reinstated it unanimously on Oct 2. (JPost, Oct 1 and Oct 2, 2026)
- Ofer Cassif (No. 6) was barred 19–5, with two abstentions (the Jerusalem Post's count; Al Jazeera, citing Adalah, reported 18–5), on Likud's petition, for negating Israel as a Jewish and democratic state and supporting armed struggle. Likud's lawyer cited Cassif's accusations against Israel over the war in Gaza and, in the Post's words, his “support for international proceedings and sanctions, calls for boycotts and statements about Palestinian resistance”; Cassif said he had “expressly said he opposed violence and supported nonviolent struggle.” The Supreme Court reinstated him 7–2 (Justices Mintz and Stein dissenting): the evidence had not reached the required “critical mass.” (JPost, Oct 1 and Oct 2, 2026; Al Jazeera, Sep 26, 2026)
- No. 3 Sami Abu Shehadeh (Balad) was barred 31–4 on Otzma Yehudit's petition, for supporting armed struggle against Israel, over an article he published on Oct 8, 2023. He withdrew after the court's president told him there was “a majority on the bench to bar” him. (JPost, Oct 1 and Oct 2, 2026; Ynet, Oct 2, 2026; Times of Israel, Oct 2, 2026)
- Surplus-vote partner: Ra'am (signed Sept 11). (Walla, Sep 12; Ynet, Sep 11, 2026)
Surplus agreement with Ra'am: both lists are on course to pass the threshold.
Who votes for them
- 2022 (ran split): Hadash–Ta'al 178,735 votes, 3.8%, 5 seats; Balad 138,617, 2.9%, 0 seats. (IDI, accessed Oct 5, 2026)
- In Arab and Druze towns in 2022: Hadash–Ta'al 28.8%, Balad 21.7%. Arab turnout 53.2%. (IDI, Dec 25, 2022)
- 77.2% of Arab citizens support an Arab party joining the government. (Dayan Center/KAP, May 2026)

Pledges to be tested in coalition talks
- Won't join Netanyahu. (Times of Israel, Aug 19, 2026)
- Conditions for backing an Eisenkot bloc: equality, a development plan, real action on crime, “a clear position against settlements”; did not rule out “a parliamentary safety net.” (INN, Aug 26, 2026)
In their words
“A political, racist, and anti-democratic decision… an attempt to exclude the political representation of more than one million voters.”
